THIS MORNING, AN EDITOR-FRIEND OF MINE (from Philippine Science High School and Ateneo) MESSAGED ME THIS. (I asked his permission if I can post it here.)
Being co-teachers in the University before, hindi niya napigilang mag-comment sa JADINE statement on their break-up!
I am putting it here – not only as a grammar or spelling exercise – but a lesson on HUMILITY & GOODWILL. Given that we all make mistakes, people remember KINDNESS even more.
Noel, I just saw the Jadine statement on my FB wall. Whoever made it needs an editor . (like Ricky Lo or my friend perhaps) (I’m sure you wouldn’t be caught making the mistakes. It was chock-full of grammatical errors, and even the message was muddled. :))
Here’s my take, Noel. Very quickly, on short notice, and based on information provided by the original statement: (It would be better this way.)
“After careful consideration, we have mutually decided to part ways. The decision, while painful, was made in the same spirit of love and care that we continue to have for each other. It both affords us more time to focus on our respective careers and gives us room for personal growth.
“We will continue to pursue projects that we believe suits us best as we hone our craft, including those that will have us working together.
“We thank our fans for their understanding and support. Rest assured that JaDine will always be in our hearts.”
Dagdag pa ng kaibigan ko.
“I took out a lot. I started to just edit, but figured I might as well change some content. The original text seemed glib to me.
Also, I took out the emphasis on music. It was prefaced with “especially,” but I often notice that readers focus more on what was not mentioned rather than on what was. So I can just imagine quarters from the industry, already predisposed to speculating, arguing that they no longer plan to make movies together. It may well be true, but there’s no need to indicate it. “
